Comments / Points on Brian Evenson Story

I can't blame the intern for being suspicious of Dr. Rauch, his behavior is quite bizarre. The fact that he makes the intern feel that successful completion of the internship depends in part on the observance and documentation of Rauch's brother is unfair and needs to be reported. Yet, the intern makes no attempt to report it.

The intern seemingly gives little regard to his own well being, yet he says , "any analysis of the mental health of a subject must take into account the conditions to which said subject has been subjected". Which is a direct quote from Dr. Rauch. Then he goes on to say that considering his present conditions he finds himself healthier than can be expected.

When the intern ask Dr Rauch to examine him physically, the Dr. gives him a picture of himself and suggest that he immulate it. I would have considered that a confirmation that Dr. Rauch is looney too.

Comments / Points on Thalia Field Story

The introduction is one of two people in comfortable chairs sharing an uncomfortable silence. Realizing or implying that it might be easy to equate the silence to an imptiness or nothingness, the author request that we get beyond the silence and relize there is much to celebrate. The author makes thecp,,emt "I won't pick up the looks you flick onto the rug between us." So we see despite the silence there is definitely activity in the room.
The author compares that in 30 minutes he / she would go into the streets and despite the fact no one is speaking to him / her, they would never refer to the situation as silent.

The author compares sitting in the room without speaking to paying for a parking place without owning a car. The author suggest that if we dont spend money when we waste words we should consider the choice to not use words. This suggest that we can communicate without words also.

The flesh form of the city doesn't move

COMMENTS ; this kind of played with my mind, on the one hand i saw the flesh of the city as it's people and massive structures , like the empire state building , the statue of liberty or the golden gate bridge as the immoveable things that see eras come and go yet they remain unaltered, never moving

COMMENT ; love this play on words, allowing me to focus on the positive element found in destruction. if i allow myself to concentrate on the ability to nurture the loss and actively MINE whats left the hidden investment can be found.

These words hide as understood our denial of such
with exclusive meaning by definition never the us

COMMENTS ; Clearly a sense that something's wrong, yes ... a description of a mentality that may dictate the actions of some people against others. Words may sometimes mask what is in the heart but actions bring the revelation.
I love the word " self -referent " , and I am a little disappointed that there was more refernce to implied hostilities as opposed to a heightened more positive "self-referent" position or attitude.
